Roboto is a neo-grotesque sans-serif typeface family which was designed by Google as the system font for its mobile operating system Android. Google itself describes the font as “modern, yet approachable” and “emotional” as well. The entire Robot font family has been licensed under the Apache license and was officially made available for free to download on January 12, 2012, on the newly launched Android Design website.
Roboto font family includes variants like Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black weights with matching italics styles. Roboto font family is also available in condensed styles in Light, Regular, and Bold with matching italics.

The Roboto font family was entirely designed in-house at Google by Christian Robertson, (an interface designer at Google) who previously released an expanded font family for Ubuntu-title through his personal website Betatype.
Robot supports various scripts regarding Latin, Greek (partial) and Cyrillic scripts.
