Lato font is a sans-serif typeface family which was designed in the Summer 2010 by Warsaw-based designer Łukasz Dziedzic (“Lato” means “Summer” in Polish). In December 2010 the Lato family was published under the open-source Open Font License by his foundry tyPoland, with support from Google.

In the year 2013-14, Lato font family was greatly expanded to cover 3000+ glyphs per style, and the Lato 2.010 family now supports 100+ Latin-based languages, 50+ Cyrillick-based languages as well as Greek and IPA phonetics. The metrics and kerning of the Lato font family have been revised and about four additional weights were created.

The Lato Font family is available to download as a free version under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The fonts can be used without any limitation as commercial or non-commercial purposes. In addition the typeface Lato can be freely modified if the terms of the license are observed.

You can also download Lato Webfonts in a ZIP file that contains two subfolders: Lato and LatoLatin. Lato subfolder contains webfonts with the complete character set (250-700 KB per style) whilst the LatoLatin subfolder contains smaller versions that only include the most important glyphs for European Latin-based languages (75-200 KB per font).

If you want to use these fonts on your website then the easiest way is to use Adobe Typekit.
